Preventing Feminine ProblemsClick each of the tips below for more information.
- Avoid tight clothing and synthetic fabrics
- Choose the right underwear
- Avoid scented, dyed soaps and feminine products
- Practice good hygiene
- Adjust your habits in the ladies room
- Let nature do its thing
Clothing that is too tight restricts air flow, traps moisture and causes friction and irritation. Think skinny jeans, panty hose and tights.
Solution:Wear well-fitting or loose pants; the air flow helps prevent vaginal infection by discouraging the growth of bacteria and fungus. Cotton, linen and silk are great choices because they’re breathable and natural.
Underwear that’s made of nylon, spandex and other synthetic fabrics will trap moisture. This is a no-no when it comes to vaginal health, because moisture invites problems.
Solution:Think natural fibers. Choose cotton underwear whenever possible. It’s natural and breathable, and will help keep your skin dry.
Chances are, your body wash doesn’t naturally smell like Island Coconut Breeze. The chemicals that go into giving your personal care products their color and scent can be less than kind to your skin. They’re often harsh, drying and irritating.
Solution:Go natural whenever possible. Choose unscented products, or products that use essential oils and other super gentle ingredients.
Of course your health is important to you, and vaginal health is a big part of it. But maintaining vaginal health is a delicate balance, and a few things you’ve never even considered can quickly knock you off course.
Solution:The goal is to keep the area clean and dry. So change out of our wet bathing suit, or sweaty workout clothes as quickly as possible. Shower and dry yourself thoroughly.
Wiping back to front introduces bacteria to a sensitive area that really doesn’t tolerate it well.
Solution:Make it a habit to wipe front to back. It’ll become second nature, and go a long way in preventing infection.
Douching disturbs your natural balance. So you may think you’re flushing things out, but really, you’re stripping your body of the good bacteria that helps keep you healthy.
